SUMMARY

The Town of Colonie Youth Employment Services website provides job listings for teens 16 and over. Open jobs are listed by category: retail sales/cashiering, maintenance and stock, clerical work, lifeguards/day care providers/camp counselor/human service workers, miscellaneous, restaurants, full time jobs, and staffing agencies. At the end of the list of jobs there is a training announcement for the Culinary Tech Center Training Program. Underneath that there are links to other websites that have job resources.

CRITICAL EVALUATION

The Town of Colonie Youth Employment Service website is very basic, but services its purpose. It is basically a list of jobs by category. The positions are not in any type of order other than by category. And the user must scroll though list to get to the category they want. The positions note if they require that the teen be 16 and over or 18 and over. In New York you can get your working papers at age 16. If a teen is under 16 they will have to get a job ‘off the books’ where you get paid in cash. Many small businesses will pay you this way. I got my first job at 14 working ‘off the books’ as a counter person in a bakery on the weekends. NY of the jobs are in fast food restaurants or chain stores. This is a good resource for teens and it is self-explanatory. Scroll through the list of jobs until you see something you are interested in. Like I said, basic but gets the job done.
